According to Jackmaster, the DJ-Kicks mix was almost ruined by near disaster.
In a press release around the delivery of the mix he delved deep into its origins. I went straight to my cabin on the boat and started picking out tracks on Rekordbox.

Split EP 12". Shotgun France. Review: The South of France is more associated with good wine, beach holidays and lavender than techno, but the Shotgun label is doing all it can to change that. It's taken three years to get to release number four but the wait was worth it with Oskar Offermann and TC80 pairing up on the same EP.
On the b-side, TC80 works a knotted bassline into a stark house framework on 'Neo Shinobi' then closes out with the more trippy and delicate melodies of 'Nishiazabu. Review: Fans of Romanian tech-house and minimalist techno should be well aware of the work of Vlad Arapasu. Since he's released a wealth of high-quality, club-ready material on the likes of Eastenderz, Kontent and Atapic.
Here he makes Happy Hippie Hifi - Jackmaster - DJ-Kicks (CD) bow on Serialism with a typically tight, gently mind-altering three-tracker. The Bucharest-based producer sets his stall out on 'Crazy 88', a deliciously trippy number in which squiggly, acid-style electronics and spooky chords ride a percussively layered rhythm track and deep, bubbly bassline. H57 EP Special Edition heavyweight white vinyl 12". Hommage Germany. Review: The Monkey Safari duo has marks a real step up in their sounds and skills, It offers a laid of accomplished, well arranged tunes that are more than just DJ fodder.
Take 'Love Will Set U Free' for example, a nice throwback tune with proper vocals and great chord work that never sounds trite. There is still time for some heady breakbeat action, soft deep house and more. Timespan 2xLP. Pittsburgh Tracks US. Anglais Hotel 12". Sono Unica Sweden. Relax Your Body reissue heavyweight vinyl 12".
Review: The first release of AUTUM's secondhand series: vinyl reissues of iconic tracks from the past, brought back to life through contemporary remixes by the most influential artists of the current electronic music scene. It has all the hallmarks of such a zeitgeist: hissing metallic reverberations of the Linn drum, squelchy and euphoric synth leads and sleazy adrenaline throughout. On this flip it is remixed by none other than Ricardo Villalobos; injecting the track with his trademark, reductionist mini-funk aesthetics and allowing you fully trip out over its nearly 20 minute duration.
Marco DEZ. Passiflora Edulis 12". Caposile Italy. The Passiflora Edulis EP features the trippy minimal bounce of the title track, as well as the Happy Hippie Hifi - Jackmaster - DJ-Kicks (CD) Rominimal influenced groove of "Magic Garden" and the swing-fuelled mood music of "Flagged' over on the flip - which gets deep!
But the real highlight of the EP comes from Ukranian tech house hero iO Mulen who lends his midas touch to the title track, creating a bleep techno influenced entrancer that you'll definitely lose yourself under the strobe lights to.
Eastside Groove Vol 2 12". Ordinaire France. Coco Bongo Club EP 12" limited to copies. Welt Discos. JambuWax 12". Jambutek Recordings Sri Lanka. Adam PITS. A Recurring Nature 2xLP. On Rotation. Review: Adam Pits has thus far been one of the most prolific producers ofreleasing a series of 12" singles that gleefully mix and match elements of different styles while keeping a steely focus on the dancefloor. A Recurring Nature, his debut album, takes a different approach, combining psychedelic electronics, interesting instrumentation and suitably hallucinatory synth sounds to excellent effect.
After beginning with the string-laden, slow-motion chug of 'As Far as the Eye Can See', Pits charges through a range of psychedelic techno, breaks and heavy electro cuts, before trying his hand at hallucinatory ghetto-tech 'Space Between'Eris Drew style trippy techno 'A Recurring Nature'tactile ambient 'Capitulation' and psychedelic neo-trance 'Foliage'. Shroomin' good stuff all told. Link EP 1 gram vinyl 12".
Draganenii Romania. Review: Romanian label Draganenii does not rush things. This is only their third release in four years. It is another literally and metaphorically heavyweight EP that sees Andrei Ciubuc and Cezar Lazar pair off for two minimal masterclasses. As they say, good things come to those who wait, and with all previous EPs selling out in quick time, this one surely will too.
Do not sleep. City Boy US. Review: Detroit legend Eddie 'Flashin' Fowlkes has had a truly massive month with a couple of releases on his esteemed Detroit Wax imprint which he runs with Niko Marks and this week he kickstarts his City Boy imprint back into action.
This is its first release in 11 years, presenting part one of Happy Hippie Hifi - Jackmaster - DJ-Kicks (CD) Knucklehead Series featuring a fine selection of moods and grooves.
First up is the deep down and dirty tech-funk of '', followed by the dusty twilight mood music of 'Hold Me Down' and over on the flip is the double 12's most energetic cut in the form of 'Test Unknown' - a sincere expression in proper Motor city style 'hi-tech soul'. Serendeepity Italy. Review: Third part of the compilation celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Milanese record shop. This collection is entirely composed of previously unreleased music, exclusively produced for the occasion by many artists of great relevance Happy Hippie Hifi - Jackmaster - DJ-Kicks (CD) the worldwide music scene, who supported the store over the last ten years.
